I think you do something wrong.

I checked it. First I've set system units and display units to inches. Exported to
.obj. I have checked first coordinate of one of vertices: in scene it is 1.506 (in inches) and in
.obj it was 0.0376 (in meters), I checked it with calculator: 1.506 * 0.025 = 0.0376.

Then I changed display units to
generic, exported again, and get the same result: in
.obj file I saw 0.0376 as first coordinate of this vertex.

Hi tehfailsafe
I too was having this problem with units objects small and far away... it was frustrating until i found the solution....
LEAVE system units in MAX inches and LEAVE obj scale in octane in Meters...then try again

at least that worked for me...
the display units dont make a difference i think...
GREAT Script Jim..real life saver!

Weird, so I'm still having that auto-scale incorrectly, but it's only on the one file I'm working on a commercial project for.
I've created new projects and it works perfectly the way you describe, system units inches autoscale to 0.025 it matches viewport in octane and scale looks appropriate.
What could this one file do that would break it? Can I send you the max file or something? I need to do MANY animations with this object and I really can't set 1.0 scale on each frame obj export.

I tried all the variations of both max unit/system unit setup, and in most cases, geometry is exported normally, but camera coordinates are multiplied by 1000. Have no idea where this comes from. If I change geometry scale, camera still is 1000 times further away.
Edit: after reopening file max offers converting file scale or adopting file's unit scale, but both options lead to the same results.
Luckily at least entering coordinates by hand works.

Thanks! It seems that problem was described incorrectly first time.

I searched bug in geometry scaling but it is camera position scaled incorrectly sometimes, not geometry itself...
I will check it.

Strange... I don't found misscaling behavior... Just one little thing found - if while exporting you
have changed default scale given, the cam and target coordinates remained default... I fixed it in
1.74.
But: if you say that in all new files all is OK and the problem exists only in some files - it may be that the cam and target coordinates in these files are wrong, check it please (e.g. you can compare cam coordinates in Max scene and in Octane after opening exported scene in Octane)...
You can also post here some screenshots to I can better undestand what you mean and what you get... My wife now works in Blender, so I can't get her help in testing...

Also a side note while im making these screenshots, just downloaded the newest 1.74 version and it seems to start octane before it's completed exporting the OBJ, and as such octane can't find the obj file and quits. I haven't seen that happen before...

Here's some screengrabs.
Max window, then octane with the default auto-resizing setting at 0.025, then octane when I manually set the scale to 1.0

No, 1.74 don't has such a changes. I think there is some another reason for this...
About scale: my wife said that Max has some glitches in scale setting, and there may be some random problems if you change scale after the scene file was first time saved... Maybe that is the reason...
I can't repeat this behavior, it is all OK on my computer and on wife's computer... Can you please give me a Max scene file that is not correctly exporting, and .obj, .ocs, and .bat files of first frame that are produced by animation render?
