Damn, do these puppies get hot when rendering for more than a couple minutes. One card was
74 degrees and the other 83!!

I bought two 460 from Gigabyte, they have slight factory OC, but their fans doing fine they settle at ~80..so I assume this temp is prety much normal..5xx line has bit better thermals, keplers even more efficient architecture..
I wouldn't worry with 80-85C on air, if You want lower though, go for watercooling, but I think it's not worth..to invest unless You have 590, 690 etc.

I had 460 in use and the hottest was working at 98 degrees at summer time.
I wouldn't worry about temps below 85 degrees with the 460s.

Yeah mine runs at about 78 and that's with a small fan pulling some hot air off the back of it.

I am testing out my first 4 card config with 2 GTX 580 Classified and 2 Zotac GTX 580 and my temps vary from 66 to 78 between the 4. Surprisingly (if the chart reflects the correct order of the cards) the 2 center cards are running the coolest. The fan on one of the Zotac really goes into overdrive after about 4-5 minutes into the demo. I will be trading out the the 2 Zotac for 2 more GTX 580 Classified so I can test out some overclocking on Afterburner. Right now I am pulling 15 on the benchmark, not too shabby but I would like to see more

Finally got the 4 classified in the same unit and not only did it increase my benchmark to 15.39 but they run cool from 59-65C

How did you stuff a z77 asrock 9 with 4 duals slots 580 gpus?

Ah i didn`t saw this version. Nice!
Glimpse any advice/experience using pci extenders? I want an extra low profile card for the monitor, so I can assign 4 580s for octane...but i have 0 room left now on my p6t7 ws, so I need two extenders! Do they work properly?

whersmy, if You are asking me, personally I think that every unnesecary complexity
introduce risk of future incompatabilities & other problems. with this in mind..
if I were You, I'd probably look for a card with APU /CPU with integrated graphics/ & run monitor from it,
leaving GPUs sitting on PCIe for rendering. But if You need crazy resolutionis - this is not a way to go..
on the other hand..if You're crazy enough..there are some solutions like "17 PCI Express 2.0 x16"
check more about that here

Hi buzby,
I also got 4 classifieds like you. I got 16.72 Ms/sec (4x580, OR 2.57, driver 285.62) on the benchmark,
But my temps are much higher 75-85 with aircooling using appr 10 fans. I am curious how your cooling is done?
