Hi all, I am a user of Octane and I will not buy this new plugin. Octane has disappointed me a bit, I think it has much potential but...i've been waiting over a year to use it in a work project and due to problems of workflow, I found it impossible. I think this plugin, it should be free to those we have been suffering the development of previous versions of octane from the beginning: (
I am an architect, and bought Octane thinking I could use it to work, but only now with this plugin, this could become reality.
I insist, I think it should be free! Thanks!

I can't agree. For me, Octane is very valuable in my production pipeline. It was a risk for me to start to use it a year ago for a serious production (because of beta status) but it was the best decission I could made to use Octane.
There haven't bee any false promises about the plugin development from the developers side so I don't know what you are talking about.
The price for the plug in is very reasonable especially for beta users.
No reasons to complain for me - Just reasons to say thank you Refractive Software.

For a full scale renderer which is usable now since a long time for most peoples field of profession its very very cheap.
With this integration it will enable people to get things faster done and stay in their well known working environment.
This 99 bucks are not even one hour of work compared with the amount of money we sometimes spent on nonsense stuff and gadgets...

and it's not just about work, I've spent the same amount in games before, and have not played as much neither I've had so much fun that now with Octane. It makes rendering soooooo much easier and with real time feedback that I've learnt tons of other 3D skills just so I could render new and fun things with Octane. So even if I hadn't earned money using Octane it would have been worth it. I'm not a "fanboy", I'm addicted!

I can understand the other guy though. I recommended OR to a friend, he even spent money on a card, and he was very decieved. He basically wanted it for work but with the current 'pre-plugin' workflow he was much better off with what he already knew. If I had to do commercial work, I'd still stick to VRay really... much faster to work with atm. I find development a bit slower than what I initially thought.

I think Vray / Mental Ray will always be more handy for some things. It's a matter of choosing the right tool for the job. For TV jobs like 3d motion graphics i would choose Octane over ray tracers anytime - you get super quality for nothing man-hours wise. For architectural indoor flythroughs - not so much.
