using a simple plain, cube & light with Beauty pass on & Network Render, hard crash.

No errors appear on the Network Machine.

I could not recreate this issue on my mac, we don't have another PC to test on.

UPDATE: It seems to happen when SLAVES are stolen mid-render. If we grab Slaves before render starts it doesn't seem to crash.
We couldn't reproduce the issue with the provided scene here. I don't think we can solve this issue on the forum, but will have to gather more information. -> Could you please contact our support via https://help.otoy.com/hc/en-us/requests/new ?

Thank you.

It'll take the system down but in a weird way, not a flat out KP. Eg high-res still renders will reach the max samples but wont complete. It keeps rendering and never stops. If you stop the render manually Cinema hangs. A normal force quit seems to work BUT after you do apps will fail to launch: everything just bounces in the dock and you have to reboot. One time after force quitting Cinema's icon remained in the dock. its wasn't listed in top so I couldn't even find the PID to kill it. Again reboot required. It's very disturbing...

Also seeing a lot of general crashes/spinning beachball when doing routine iterative work with the LV active (crashes only happens when LV is running) and it requires a force quit (but those don't take down the system at least). Again this is all with R20.

I do not get this behaviour with R19 and V3.08. With the same scenes it renders fine.
What's crashes? C4D crash with warning window or Render Failure with red texts?

Its crashes, not errors (no red text)

Where's bugreports?

No bugreports. I have to either force quit or it does as I described above and takes the system down.

What happen without eGPU?

Its an iMac so I cant use octane without an eGPU.

Give more info for what you render? Scene's itself or resolution, settings, etc...?

Beppe's contacted me for info which I'll try to provide when I have a moment.
This might be related to Notiusweb's issue: viewtopic.php?p=351110#p351110

I made him a test build where we use the regular memory copies instead of the fast version and it seemed to have helped in his case. We are planning to release an update with this change next week, and hopefully it solves your problem, too.

I find this build as good as the latests V3.
However I can't ignore something: I've been upgrading some older scenes (I think they were made with V2) into V4 engine.
I can't seem to change the BRDF model of the shaders. No matter how many times I toggle around the BRDF models the previews won't change and the live Viewer wont even recognize it as a change (wich means wont even cause an update).
It only happens with these old scenes I'm trying to update.
Any ideas? Is it a bug?
Cheers,

Hi aoktar,

Great work on the V4 release! It has been stable for me and I am enjoying the new features from 3.08.

I have a quick question about network rendering with the V4 Studio Subscription C4D plugin. I saw on the Octane V4 All-Access FAQ that network rendering is now available for Studio Subscriptions with this latest release. I have 2 Studio Subscriptions installed on 2 PCs (with the slave daemon installed on the slave PC), but while following the instructions in the help manual, I do not see "NETWORK RENDERING" listed as a menu item in the Live Viewer "OPTIONS" menu on my PC.

I contacted the OTOY help email and was told that a fix is in the works so my apologies if this is redundant, but is there a timeframe for when this will be implemented? I can use Team Render in the meantime but was curious if the fix was looking to be implemented in the next week or so, or sometime in Q1?

Thanks again!
Andrew

It's my mistake to enable Network rendering for Studio versions. Somehow I missed this new change about Studio functionality. I've fixed that for next build.

It maybe due new parameter IDs. I need to check!

Hey everyone,

following up on my previous post concerning Octane crashing while saving out a frame when I'm rendering in a higher resolution.
I'm pretty sure it's the denoiser that causes the problem, since it just disappears, when I disable it. Unfortunately, I'd need the
denoiser to work, especially since it's a kinda large resolution for a print ad, so there can't be any noise.

See a screen grab of my log attached. I'm a little confused, since there's like 4gb of VRAM left - yet it says it's running out of RAM...

Also, is there a way to work with the render layer system and use the denoiser on the "Black Shadows" pass? My Beauty pass is
getting denoised but not the Black Shadows pass.

I had the same issues. I noticed that one of my "Image Texture" was set as to "RGBA - 8bit(BC7)(high quality)" Instead of auto in the "Texture Import Type" setting.
After resetting it to "Auto" the slaves worked again and did not show "unpacked file image has unexpected type" anymore. Maybe that helps!

This is definitely a core bug. I am posting it here anyway as its captured with C4D.

When using different sampling factors on transparent lights there seems to be a contribution error with fake shadows materials.
If you would be so kind to watch the video for a detailed desctption of the video.

I also attached the scene to the comment, so you van inspect it yourself.
