Hi!

As announced, I'm going to take part in this competition.
It's the first time I've taken part in a 3D competition, and I bet it's gonna be a great experience!!!
:D

My choice for the model was quite obvious from the start, actually.
I've always been a huge fan of KitchenAid's blender named "Artisan".
I've always enjoyed cooking (and eating  ), and I've also always loved the design of this device.
Furthermore, the fact that such a piece of cookware could survive for decades, and could be used by thousands of people throughout the years, is quite mind-boggling to me.
Finally, I really wanted to confront myself to modelling it, because I've always been somewhat "frightened" by the complexity of the shape.
It's not just cubes and spheres, and it's not totally organic either - I'm really happy now because it was a personal challenge, and also because modelling it has tought me plenty of things...

- I used Blender 2.49b for modelling.
- Computer specs: Intel Quad-Core 2.50Ghz / 4Gb RAM / Windows XP Pro 32 bits / GeForce GTX275 / CUDA Driver & Runtime version 3.0
- The scene has 1,037,030 triangles.
- 16,000 maxsamples
- Render time : 12 hours 23 mins
- First and Second images are Blender's 3D view and internal renderer.
- Last image is the definite one I am submitting
- The only postprod done in Photoshop was a slight Levels tweaking.
- The HDRI image was downloaded from a website that provides HDRIs for free (can't remember the name of it)

You can find the WIP here

Good luck to all competitors !

Hi,
my name is Daniel Abendroth. I am a Designer from Stuttgart, SW-Germany.
I am using Octane for 1/2 Year. This is my first time participating in an octane-render-competition.

The final image shows an interior scene with some of my design ideas: furniture, lamp and other architectural elements.
A special element is the pattern for the wallpanels and the curtain. It is based on a "Fern-Structure". You can see it is still present (the fern) as reminiscence in the bottom-right corner.

As for the technical details:
Final Render Resolution: 2048 x 1024 Pixel
Rendertime: 7h 02 min // Pathtracing
Polygons: 101372 Tris
409 MB are used on the GTX470

Process:
Sketching on my HTC Desire
Modelling and texturing in Blender 2.54
UV-Maps are generated in GIMP and Photoshop
Materials, Lighting and Rendering in Octane_pre23_5_win32
Post in Photoshop:
- Filter Lens Correction ( Vignette, Chromatic Abrreviation, Lens distortion)
- Little adjustment in tonemapping: Exposure
- Cropping
- Frame, name and datestamp for "Final Image"

I hope you like it

cheers Daniel

The final version of my gothic project "Gotham Night Lover".. Inspired to an impossible love story...
Application used: Zbrush, Cinema 4D r12, Body Paint, Octane Render
Workflow: The Gargoyle statue was modelled in C4D with subdivide surface in low res and imported in Zbrush for final modelling. The same for the cats.
I Textured these models in Zbrush directly.
For the Dark Knight and Catwoman I have imported basic human models in Zbrush. With Extract Poly to new subtool command I maked the armor.
Imported the models in C4D, I used Body Paint for texture the characters.
Always in C4D I modelled the others geometry and textured in Bodypaint.
My work in progress is posted here http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... 1&start=70
Exported to Octane I have applyed two emitter material to the light lamps. I would liked to have a hot charm atmosphere..so I used an HDRI map with brown and golden tonality..
I have selected Pathtracing modality render and Pixel remove to minimal.
System: On my Dual Core wit 4gb and a Gt8600 with 249mb was impossible render the project..so I loaded in the I7 8gb of the studio where I work (We have bought a regular Octane license) with a Nvidia Geforce 480 1,5gb... I hope in next future of buy for my personal use a similar powerfull system..
and Octane works "fast and furious"!!! I had the render in less of 30 minutes.. without noise.. Fantastic!
Nothing Photoshop post production on final renders.
I hope that my work like to you..
Regards and thanks again for the fantastic work that you have maked with the stunning Octane Render

I'll update the competition main post, IT'S ENDING ON MONDAY 31 JANUARY from now.
