Can you look at this scene. VDB is pixelated not sure why. Thanks
Hi coilbook,
I tweaked a bit values of medium and volume, it can be improved in various ways:
-Reducing Volume step
-Adding a Sample position displacement with a Noise texture
-Adjusting Absorption, Scattering values and scale
I'm not too sure what's the best combination, but here is your updated sample:

Thanks
Thank you!

Hi neonZorglub,
octane still renders smoke pure black when sim is saved as AUR Can you look into it?

Will this black smoke issue be fixed soon when simulating as AUR?

In OctaneRender_Studio+for_3ds_Max_2024.1.2-_15.13, the interface works much faster — it's smooth, and button clicks respond instantly.
However, in OctaneRender_Studio+for_3ds_Max_2025.4-_16.10, everything lags — it opens the settings tabs very slowly and feels noticeably sluggish.

+1 Everything runs so slowly, sometimes I have to wait 10 sec for the 3ds Max Render Setup to open, same for the camera modifier tab and material editor.

Yes, the scene in the project keeps freezing — everything runs in stutters. Even when just zooming in the viewport, it lags and freezes. It feels like the computer is working with a 120-million-polygon scene, even though there are only 4 million polygons in it. Was this even tested? Apart from three cubes in the scene, I mean. Try opening some heavier scenes.

Hi,
I’ve been trying to reproduce the lag issue some of you mentioned, but so far I haven’t had any luck. I’m not seeing any noticeable lag between versions. I’ve tested a few heavy and mixed scenes, but everything seems to run in the same way on my end.
The only difference I’ve noticed is that, in some cases, the render setup panel takes a bit longer to open, but that’s about it.
Are there any similarities between the scenes where you’re seeing the lag? Maybe a specific plugin, some heavy HDRIs, or anything else that could be triggering it?
Regards
Paride

Please see the attached file, this is a video I've sent on the forum some weeks ago, it shows the Render setup opening very slowly on a fresh scene (on max 2024 but that's the same on 2026).

When I switch to Arnold or Corona Render, everything runs smoothly.

Here's everything freezing, it takes a long time to launch, attaching a video, scrolling through materials or some setting is causing the lag.

I'll send you the scene in a private message.
nvidia 4090/ win 11 24h / 581.57
Octane has a direct effect on 3ds max, everything scrolls slowly.
