Your guys primary issues are as a result of the "cuts" of the gems.
You need more cuts in the gems to reflect light more.
It's a bit exaggerated there but I have some less pronounced ones as well.
See
here for one that's not quite as pronounced.

ofcourse NOT ! Every gem is different .... it depends on what gem You are aiming for....
there are like 100 ways of cutting the Diamond... and its not only the one You have

The main problem I see is that your three gems have diamonds cuts. Each kind of gem has several kinds of cuts, and they are studied to give the best refractions inside the gem to allow the light come out of it after some internal reflections, according to the specific Indice Of Refraction of the gem.
I think that you will not see any esmerald with that kind of cut. Esmeralds generaly have less faces and a large table.
Result of a quick a google search :

WHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAATT???? You mean I don't know everything
My apologies if I sounded like a pompous (ahem). I just assumed that since they were diamond cuts, they were intended to have a high degree of reflection and light bounces. You guys are indeed quite right, lots of diamonds have lots of different cuts and varried gemstones usually have a most common appearance.
I like the 2nd render Sean.

hahaha ... Idont know everything either

but I remember when I was researching Diamonds.... that they have similar patterns but not exactly the same
