Hi coilbook,

I suppose you are referring to VDB Preview file caching in Render settings / Support/Common scene collection settings ?

There is no actual way to disable the preview for now, just setting 'Display as' to 'None' for each channel, in Display Settings of the Octane Volume object .
That should speed up the Max viewport display for big volumes, but unfortunately, there is still some caching going on.
You should set the Display percent to 0.1 to reduce the file usage, but the caching system will still read all the volume files...
Note that after you scrub the timeline once, there should be no more lag.

In the next release, I will add an actual Disable option to avoid both the volume reading and display.

Thanks

For some reason this option is enabled by default in the integration! I’ve been rendering in such poor quality for half a year now and I can’t understand why the detailing is so bad, but here’s the reason
I have never gone into this settings item, and it came as a surprise to me that the octane renders blurry.

Hi Elvis,
Wouldn't bet on it if it's set to 2x2 by default, but my setting is always set to no-upsampling. Not in your case?

1 Please fix when using random color with itoo. Sometimes colors switch during the next rendering

2. When selecting lots of objects and disabling Dirt Visibility they become nonrenderable. You have to manually turn on renderable.

Have you confirmed that it's really the default? Have you deleted your Octane prefs to start fresh to confirm it? This is kinda old, but I think the path has stayed the same
You could try to backup and delete the preference file : octane3dsMaxConfig.cfg in
C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2024 - 64bit\ENU\plugcfg_ln
and re start 3dsmax, that should reset all preferences to the default values..

Texture animation doesn't work with itoo when support type set to Direct. Legacy mode works

I had a look and the default setting for Camera Imager Sampling mode is 'no up-sampling'.
There are no settings in Octane preferences that can change this setting by default (unlike some other kernel settings that you can change in Kernel Default tab).
You can check by starting Max, and set the renderer to Octane. (if Octane is already set as default renderer on startup, set Scanline, and then set Octane)
Then open Render setup, Camera Tab, and see the sampling mode; it should really be 'no up-sampling' at this point.

You might be using a 'maxstart.max' file..
In this case, it was probably saved with upsampling set to 2x2..
You can just change this, and re-save your maxstart.max..

Note that when you start Max, you can see if it's using maxstart.max by opening the Tools tab, rollup '1.9 version support', that shows the Current Scene filename (something like C:\Users\xxx\Documents\3ds Max 2024\scenes\maxstart.max)

If you are not using a maxstart.max file, there could be some other custom startup things (some maxscript files, ..) that can change some settings..

Could you check those things, and let us know if you still get the 2x2 by default ?
Thanks

Hi coilbook,
Could you send me some sample scenes ?
(also for the itoo scattered grass )
I think those issues were fixed or had work arounds, but as Itoo and Octane versions changed, I'd like to have a fresh look..
Thanks

Hi. I will.
meanwhile can you look at 3ds max native Damper? I attached the scene. If you open octane viewport and pull the right dummy up and down you will see brown noise is not sticking to 3ds damper even though texture projection is set xyz to uvw
