I don't know, but it seems that when you import old materials, before the implementation of Color space on maps, instead of converting to the same gamma that was used, it applies sRGB 1 to everything.

is this correct?

Hi samsue,
Try switching to "Linear sRGB + Legacy gamma".

yes, that is what I am doing! But it is very nice for me that I have a big library of materials that I made myself... I have to open it and resave it, because when I import it, it comes with the wrong values for the gray maps as rough :D

Looks good, yes.. I'll look into it. The volume won't probably match Octane, but it would be better that the current point cloud ;)
In the meantime, here is the current version with 3dsMax 2023 support:
