Sure but I am certain it has something to do with the volume in the scene, soon as I remove it the render times are almost identical.

I'll send you the scene tomorrow, in the meantime I'm going to keep using LW2018, on the advice of several people.

No matter what options I try I have to use ridiculously low values to get fog to show up the way I want and I mean 0.0001, anything over that value and everything renders black.

This has always been a major bug as far as I'm concerned.
Did you find a solution? 3ds max and octane 2020.2 have same problems with dark fog Thanks

You need to adjust volume step, the lower the volume step the denser the fog , larger volume step and the fog is going to be lighter.

Also if you are making your own mesh based volume don't fill it with value 1 if you want a lighter more natural fog, fill it with value 0.1 or lower and then you won't need to use ridiculously low values in volume node.
