Mind if I ask why you want the Layer ID and not Object ID?
Object Layer ID pass (multicolor) gives me sloppy mattes, e.g. with extreme DOF situations. In AE i tried the color key and the EFX ID Select plugin, see test images attached.

Object layer color pass works fine (R+G+B workflow) and is fast. But is restricted to only 3 mattes as far as i know. Multiple RGB mattes is not possible right (like in Redshift)?

Layer masks are slow to render but gives me perfect mattes, can go up to 24 mattes and is fast in AE. In a lot of shots i need more than 3 mattes, and while rendering overnight i don't care so much about the little extra render time.

But since Layer masks can't be combined with Cryptomatte apparently (still weird why not), i think i will go for the RGB workflow (for the first 3 mattes) combined with a Cryptomatte (for the rest).

Thanks!

Yes I see what you mean, I figured you need more than 3 masks which is why I asked. Yeah you would have to get creative with it.
Since I stopped using layer masks, I got very picky with the objects im masking and quickly realized I never ACTUALLY need more than 3 separate ones. Not saying you don't but it did make me realize I was creating a messy pass situation for myself for no reason.
