Great thanks ! I just downloaded and installed it, but it says " Demo Version", pretty sure I'm missing something

Hmm, but have you downloaded the enterprise or studio plugin builds?

It 's working now. I get a message about ' incompatible ROP" is that because of the the new version ?

Hmm, I'm not sure. What is exactly the problem? Please, check if you have the right plugin build for your Houdini version configured in the houdini.env file.

Something strange was going on with that scene, all the Octane material network nodes had changed into shader nodes( no network to dive into), the OCtane ROP was wrong/corrupted.

I opened a previous version of the file and copied over the nodes..

Hmm, perhaps you had loaded and saved this scene in a Houdini without the plugin or with it not properly installed. If you save a scene loaded in Houdini without the plugin, all the Octane nodes will be lost.

Oh yes, that sound very plausible

The 499 Octane will not start in the 499 build. Error message box on Houdini startup:

"(1114)Couldn't load C:/Users/john/Documents/houdini18.0/Octane_2020.1.2.0_Houdini_18.0.499_vr_Win64/dso/HoudiniOctane_18.0.499_vr.dll

This is probably because this file was intended for use with a different version of Houdini."

Update: the 460 version fails with a similar error.
