I haven't posted in awhile. My system with my 8800gt has been down so I haven't had time to play too much. I just picked up a gts250 (no one around me has gtx's anymore). Anyway, I am happy to see the alpha development, and to hear that bump mapping is coming along. You guys rock.

today i also added spectral thin film coatings to specular and glossy/specular materials.
this is usefull for making soap bubbles, petrol coatings on water and irriscident effects.
looks like beta2 is going to offer a lot of handy new things.
also, what should i call alpha mapping ? 'alpha' or 'opacity' mapping?

I don't care about the name as long as it works

alpha seems fine to me. Just wondering will white be opaque or transparent ?

yeah, white = opaque and black = transparent.
grey levels are partially transparent.
So 'Opacity Map' is ok ?

Opacity map sounds decent, and is common most of the place.
Looking worward to playing with the thin film coatings, some sweet renders you have there.

i vote opacity mapping since octane uses physical based rendering, and alpha is not an appropriate term for real world materials.
