Hi,
octane needs ~450MB of VRAM for denoising, independently from the film buffer resolution, but you ned a lot of free system RAM, if you are working in 4k resolution.

Hey there.
There should be more than enough memory on our systems to handle the denoiser. Here is a screenshot of my task manager.
Also, it's worth noting that this appears to be an Octane 4 problem across all the plugins. We have a guy here that uses Lightwave, and just out of curiosity I had him render a 5120 x 5120 image with denoiser turned on, and the same thing happened in Lightwave. It just closes. (4k as well)
The big spike you see is where C4D crashes.

Hi,
please check System Memory RAM, not GPU Memory, when denoising is active.

I don't think the system memory is an issue either. It is visible in the photo that I provided - it does not reach a peak.
I am using a very simple scene. A cube with nothing else. There is no reason AI denoiser would take up 32 GB of system memory just rendering a basic untextured cube.

Hi,
I had the exact same problem also using Cinema 4D R19, Octane 4, GTX 1080ti + GTX 1070ti on Windows 10.
First I upgraded my PSU but still crashing, then I upgraded from 32 to 64 GB RAM (system memory) and it has not crashed since. It might not seem like the RAM is much used, but when I constantly checked I noticed the system memory spikes hard at the very end of de-noising (also on simple projects). If you use "Resource Monitor" it is easier to track the spike that last only a very short time and causing the crash.
I'm now rendering 8K spherical renders with de-noising all day long, no problems
Hope this will also solve your renders!
Cheers,
Tore

Hey tbobstfelder,
Thanks so much for your post. I'm surprised it requires that much memory. Pretty crazy.

You're very welcome! Yeah, it's quite crazy but I don't complain having 64 GB at my disposal for other tasks. Everything runs much smoother, even Cinema 4D it seems

This happens to me too and it comes down to image size. Reducing the size means no crash, which is about to become a problem as I need to push out some large 2-page spreads next week. It never happened in V3, only V4, only at the end.

You need more system RAM for large resolutions.
Alternatively, you can try to export to Standalone, to save some RAM with c4d closed.
Another way is to use the c4d tiled camera rig, with vignetting and post effect disabled, and compose back the frame in Photoshop.

I can confirm everything in this thread. So for people finding this via google, we upgraded from 32 to 64 MB of RAM, and indeed the denoiser works at higher resolutions. Time to upgrade all the machines!
