Having the same problem..

Sometimes it works, sometimes not, i dont know why.
Length is set, and with some file types nothing happen.

If you give a better information we can understand and help you. Also fix if there is a bug or issue in plugin.
But before that be sure there's not any other image file in another search path as you selected.

I used a TIFF sequence before. I changed all to PNG - now the random loading issue is gone. I guess PNG can be used better in the engine?
