If you overblow the image it will stay overblown. This is simple as that. You need to control the Image Power and Camera Exposure to the proper level to get the image right. After the render process you can always bring the image to editing software and correct it there more.

Hey.

That's not necessarily true for Filmic Blender. It can take a lot of light before it really maxes out.

Filmic Blender is nice but tends to flatten highlights too much for my taste. I prefer Octane Highlight Compression over Blender's Filmic.

Hi Andreas,

regarding a "linear workflow" to my knowledge a few things need to be considered:

World Texture Node:
By Setting the Power above 1 you are altering the HDRI. The Color Correction Node is clamping the HDRI
and thereby also altering the HDRI (You will see a drastic difference with or without Color Correction Node even with neutral Settings).
Intensity is better controled by the Power Settings in the Octane Environment.

The Gamma Value in the Camera Settings for Linear should be set to 1 (when Octane Camera Imager is enabled).

The Blender Color Management for Linear Workflow is sRGB for Display Device and RAW for View.
Gamma of 1 is Linear, 2.2 will give more or less what a monitor can display.

If you're happy with your Filmic result go for it.

Hey.

I've often changed the strength of an HDRI in the past without any issue. It often depends on the camera settings, the scene or if you use additional light next to the HDRI lighting. So I don't think that you have to stick to a power of 1 to get the result that you want.
Besides that, you're the first one that suggest to use a gamma of 1 for the Octane Imager. Everybody else says, that a gamma of 2.2 is necessary for a linear workflow. Maybe something that I might have to investigate further.

I'll do some tests and will report on the results.

With response type of Linear the Gamma must be set to 2.2 otherwise it's oversaturated and has too much contrast and is too dark.
