In the attachment my plane with your node setup. I included a movie file rendered in Octane (obviously) with a layout overlay of the scene movement, showing that it doesn't really do what we want it to do.
Like to know if it works different with you.
Thanks

ruuterdetuuter, in your vector scalar nodes you have to select the appropriate channel (X, Y, or Z).

You can create a texture controlled object through standard LW texture tools that duplicate the settings of the Octane shader and thereby see in the Open GL mode what happens to the texture in real time.

@mikefrisk: I had, and I have again, but this makes no difference.

Hi there,
just tried a similar setup to drive displacements and wakes and curiously it's the lw invert scalar node which doesn't work (probing it shows always 1 for negative values and 0 for positive inputs)
that's just weird
don't know if it's still the case in 2018.01 as I don't have the oc plugin for it.
Anyway, what works is to use a multiply node and to multiply incoming Z value by -1.
cheers,
rom

The Juan scene started working for me when I turned on the "update of materials" in the IRP window and enabled the option "Full update" in the render settings.
But I have another question - I need to move on the surface only one small spot (which will be assigned the transparency of the material - so that the boat with people excludes the surface of the water from inside). but all that I was able to achieve so far - tiling spots on the surface.

I am trying to do the same thing with a fluid simulation sequence loaded in layout using object replacement. I need a specific area of the simulation to be a different color from the rest, and this area changes position during the animation. The position is represented by an animated null, where I want the color change to be. I have tried all sorts of different projection methods but just can't seem to get it to look right. I have been using a bitmap with a gradient and tried a couple variations such as a radial gradient in the center, and a linear gradient. I attempted to use "clamp" for the tiling method so the gradient ramp isn't repeated. I've spent a lot of hours with no success. Hoping for some tips as I need to get this client work rendering ASAP!
