Ok Jim... I did not read that I cannot open Blender.
I will try.

You can open Blender, you can't use the LiveDB space in it. But if your startup file opens the LiveDB space automatically, or you open some scene that has LiveDB space opened - Blender will immediately try to access the LiveDB cache on OctaneServer that is still in process of obtaining it. It's better to not do this, and let OctaneServer prepare a cache after the very first clean-cache start, before starting using it. So, if you don't know exactly what you are doing - then yes, the easiest way is just don't start Blender before the initial cache sync is finished by OctaneServer. This needs to be done only one time, you don't need to wait every next time you start OctaneServer.

Jim
maybe it would not be hard to make some kind of security for reading liveDB before caching process is finishied?
Live DB could show in list information: LiveDB in unavaliable at the moment - caching data. Please Wait...
or something like that and make liveDB unavailable for browsing until caching process finished.
Maybe you should make software to clear automagically livedb after installation of different version of BOE
(i.e. by using a simple text file in livedb folder that contains version of BOE that made existing livedb cache ).
Than new beginners like me will not take your time for explanations why it does not work
BTW: my Octane Server cache if finished after 18 min ( no further files addition in directory USER\livedb).
But unfortunately : NO THUMBNAILS and Blender still hangs when editing name of material - as I show you on the video
As I see in BlenderSettings\datafiles list of raw files for preview is made ad hoc when browsing the list of materials.

I've made a short video showing that everything works just as expected.
It seems like you were trying to rename materials from LiveDB inside LiveDB and not in your object's material settings. Renaming materials in LiveDB has never been supported by Blender plugin.

Hi Saramary.
Thanks for video!
I know that I am quite annoying for Jim but I still cannot figure out where is a problem in my system.
In every version 11_11 to 11_16 I still have no preview images in Blender.
I did renaming by accident clicking on the livedb browser randomly cause have no preview.
In 11_11 if you go accidentally into Name edit mode and do not press ESC for cancel and just click aside then Blender crashes.
In 11_15 the same situation give Blender hangs.
Maybe accidental name edition in livedb browser should not be allowed for user but on the other site Blender UI has its own limitations.
I will try to figure it out why my Blender has problems with liveDB preview.
I came from Thea Render so maybe my default startup.blend file has some issues.
I have noticed that 11_16 eats system RAM ( not VRAM) as hell ! - more than 11_11 did in the same projects.
( now I am swinging between 11_11 and 11_16 - install / uninstall )
With 11_16 I have few system reports about low RAM level ( I have 32GB in my system ). Did you noticed it too ?

just one thing:
In addons list I have one issue:
Missing script files: space_view3d_material_utils
Is this something related with Octane ?

Yesterday I subscribed to OctaneVR and OctaneVR for Blender.
I have not been able to use Octane in Blender at all. It looks like Octane Server keeps shutting down when I look in the system tray.
I am using all the latest stable versions.
I start OctaneServer - then I start Blender for Octane Render.
I check the activation state, most of the times no dialogue shows up but sometimes it confirms to me everything is ok.
When I then check the system tray I can see OctaneServer shutting down and the icon disappears.
Even when it does confirm to me everything is ok and OctaneServer doesn't shut down, I have never been able to see LiveDB.
This is the first time that I am using Octane so I might be missing something crucial?

11.13 is a very old version. This bug was fixed long time ago... The most recent version is 11.20.

Thanks a lot for your reply!
That's quite strange because on my subscription downloads page 11.13 is the most recent version I can download.
The dropdown filter menu does mention 11.20 but when I select this version no downloads show up.
Is there maybe another place where I can download the newest version?

I still haven't managed to find it. I've also asked Otoy about this, but no reply yet.
