This would be a game changer for me.
Standalone is so fast and stable compared to the Maya plugin. I tried to keep my workflow purely to standalone for this reason but that lack of control over lighting would always hold me back. Ever since I purchased Octane I haven't felt the benefits as much as I had hoped due to the ongoing difficulties with the Maya plugin.
Working in standalone feels very natural to me. I like building my scenes out of nodes...it feels more logical than adopting the established methods found in some DCC host apps.
I'll keep an eye on this thread. Congrats on the progress so far.

Right there with you. My maya plugin stays on the "shelf". It's alembic exports and standalone for now.
