Ok so I did a small scene and came up with this, the texture I'm using to drive the roughness and stuff was made inside of After Effects using fractal noise then with some adjustment layers and shapes I inverted the colors several times, in the example you can see some really reflective part but as you would guess you just need to make sure to have some part of your map that are black.

I also suggest you to use the "highlight compression" option in the camera imager to get a preview of how the scene would look with a smoother transition of light then for final export turn it off and do the tone mapping inside of your compositing application of choice.

PD: I find funny the fact that Silverwing could actually had something to do with the image I was totally guessing also the music from the reel of Aixsponza is totally sick.

Awesome! I am glad you like it. I am interested to see what you have in mind for the specular map. Here is another image you may like it is the same object in a cloth material. I too am excited by this.

I will definitely try that. The image I attached does have a fractal noise applied to it from after effects. I did use the block fractal noise as you suggested. But I did not invert it. I have never used the highlight compression. Since it is a float value I am guessing a little goes a long way?

That cloth looks like something out of Silent Hill, I also uploaded a project file for you to see and the value goes from 0 to 1 using 1 will make your highlights totally flat just try and see, sometimes that is the best look to get you started in post.
