CUDA 8 will be available in August 2016 and there will be a release candidate available around June.

What a joke.. Just got 2 GTX 1080s for my new PC, and am in the middle of doing intensive VFX for a feature film, now to find out they won't be compatible with Octane. I'm about to hit the roof right now

so pissed. I can't wait until August for this issue to be fixed.

You might make a search about compatibility or support before buying a brand new hardware. How could you blame Otoy and expect a compatibility for unavailable standards in case?

complain to nvidia to not releasing cuda 8 earlier - had to buy 980tis, will buy titan x for this very reason. somehow weird situation.

I'm not blaming Otoy at all. Forgive me for being angry. I'm just frustrated and upset for having spent the money on something I'm unable to use for a month with deadlines quickly approaching. How was I to know it wouldn't work with Octane? It's not like there's a disclaimer in the GTX 1080 product page that says "Will not work with Octane Render." It's a graphics card. You'd expect it to be compatible right out of the box. How could the graphics card and Octane only be compatible together on a CUDA that isn't released yet? the 1080 obviously still functions on the the current CUDA, otherwise it wouldn't be on the market yet. I guess I'm just failing to see the issue

To be blunt - with a tiny bit of research on this forum. There are many many posts about this on these forums since the 1080 was announced, the onus is on the buyer to do some research.
This also has precedent, when Nvidia released their first Maxwell cards, exactly the same thing occurred. Of course it's frustrating to make a mistake, but you can't blame anyone else other than yourself.
cheers
