mikinik wrote:coilbook, I think this was done deliberately to make the announcement and immediately announce a price. I hope I'm wrong and the plugin for 3ds max will be free and will include all features that were stated in the beginning, otherwise why so long we do not see it?
The wait was so we could get the plugin moved over to OctaneEngine and not make this change after its in user hands.

Thank you guys for your patience and hope we see answering your needs with this roadmap.
So when is the Beta 3.0 plugin going to be available, I thought you mentioned that it would after the GTC announcement, but I have checked and the downloads are not available yet. When should we expect to play with the 3.0 version for Max and Maya?

Announcements regarding the 3DS Max plugin roadmap for OctaneRender 3 can be expected very soon, as more announcements come out in the wake of GTC. Keep an eye on the latest in Octane news for more.

We're going to ship Blender, Max and Maya with Octane Engine API. It's important we finished work this before you guys start using it. It is the reason why these plugins are coming out later than the rest.

When can we expect a specific 3ds Max feature overview for 3.0?

We didn't have time in the talk to cover each plugin. The main feature we've been working on is moving Max to OctaneEngine's API so we can bring those feature in as early as possible. Any core 3.0 features will be exposed to the Max plug-in.

I was waiting for the big announcement...
What I see is a bunch of slides and theories and a short demo with a low poly car.
Where are all the top secret 3ds Max promised features?
The fact is that Otoy lost his genius.
Few people on this planet are able to write "very fast" code for gpus.
I tried and purchased all gpus renderer available on the market, except for the ones not available for Max.
The only plugin that really works is Octane and one year ago Otoy stopped the development because the genius had great ideas...
I don't understand...
l'm sad.

Give me the basics such as backplate & HDRI solution like every other renderer and round edges that work, that would be real progress lol!
A ray switcher (or advanced matte solution) and target lights would also be nice.
Just kidding (sort of) actually I love the ambition and direction OTOY are going in, but keeping our feet on the floor, we really need some fundamental flaws resolving and standard issue features added before the bells and whistles.

Sorry man, as much as we appreciate everyones work at Otoy and love the engine (we really do!), this is just the wrong way.
As someone already said before, you're making the biggest mistake: OVERPROMISE / UNDER DELIVER.
This can work for some time but not forever...

I was quite shocked to see this in the 3.0 presentation. What was this all about? And then the comment "nice". :?
