Try a different texture. I think your parameters are wrong.

I have used a OctSpecular, and after pressing the green octane button button about 8 times it updated. Although this helps prove that some materials work, I am still unclear why I seem to not be able to use the Diffuse texture and how after a fresh installation my parameters are still wrong. Very strange, thanks for your suggestions so far though.

So managed to get it sorted, needed to check invert normals and I have started to get the result I want, thanks for help so far.

I think you're under some confusion. Absolutely you don't need restart rendering after doing somethings. If you have all check update functions are activated, you don't need to do this. %99 of changes will be immediately will be reflected to LV. Materials, lights, geometries, cameras, etc.. Try to work on a new scene and go slow also step-by-step. If you still having similar behaviour, somethings should be wrong on your side.
Also watch this tutorials and try same

Hi, can anyone help me with my set-up, I am having endless issues getting Octane to work for me, and its simply starting to drive me insane. I have been working on getting this problem solved as you can see from this thread, however, when trying to recreate the rust elements from blastframes's tutorial on Vimeo my Octane viewer simply inst updating, I am getting no feedback and I am not sure why I am having this problem. Can anyone suggest something in my settings that may be causing this problem as currently I am getting zero functionality from Octane. I am pitching to use it in my studio to a wider team, who are wanting to use Arnold and I said I would research Octane as I was championing its results I am seeing on-line and I cant even get a preview screen to work.
IS there something I am doing wrong that would mean this is happening. As you can see from the above thread I am having issues with Materials just appearing white. Consistently not getting anything in the view port and today is a new one, a material that is clearly visible in the material editor, a simply HDRI light source and all I am getting back is a very over exposed image.
Any help would be amazing, I have done everything so far in this thread.
Thanks in advance Mark

So your problem occurs within C4D. Is C4D creating objects with inverted normals? Check it out in Face mode within normals shown.
