I have a quadro 4000k hooked up in my first slot for my monitors and 780's in two of the other slots for rendering and all the cards are correctly found. I have a Rampage IV black mobo, so I wouldn't expect yours to work that much differently than what I have, unless it's a special case for a Titan X.
I have a TitanX in 3rd pci on a x99, a Titan Black on the 1st slot and it works fine.

there must be some misunderstanding i guess. you say Titan X works only on first (closest to cpu). what if i have 2 / 3 / 4 Titan X then?

Yes, this is misunderstanding - it's about 560 in the first slot and X in third.

Xs work without any problems in all slots.

I dont know why my TitanX is having a problem with this mobo then...I can put it in any other slot and Windows refuses to see it other than a lores vga adapter with a big red question mark in device manager.

If someone knows of a fix to this, please let me know. In the mean time, I'll chat with nvidia.

After my talk with Nvidia, the problem should have been obvious at the outset...The Titan X needs a PCI X16 slot. There are only two on the Rampage-5 mobo...The very top slot (#1), and the very bottom slot (#4) shared with X8. I only tested 1, 2 and 3 (#4 was too close to the PSU). Obviously, 2 and 3 failed because they are not X16.

That is what I pointed out right at the beginning : first red slot and third red slot :) Before connecting any pci device always look into motherboard manual which pci slots are x16s,.... Pages 18, 19 of the manual of ramage V.

Im not enitrely sure of the situation

in vray rt and redshift the gpu #s represent a card and you can select either card or both. Also, the # should show the name of the card instead of slot #1 and slot #2.

i am using gpu-z to monitor the load of my graphics cards and neither combination results in any activity on my graphics card. Please advise. I am hoping there will be an update to streamline this.
