So you have 2 GPU's in your system?
This could be the problem.
Between v0.7 and v0.8 i made a change that involves selection of the GPU when the app starts.
something must be going wrong at that stage.
Is it possible at all, just to see if this could be the problem,
for you to remove 1 gpu ?
(if it's too much hastle, leave it)

I just pipe up here to say 190.38 doesnt list the GT120 as supported
maybe try the 195.62
Correction sorry it does list them in the pdf release notes I guess they missed it on the main page
maybe try 195.62 anyway
here is 195.62
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_195.62_whql.html
both cards need to run/share the same driver
Edit: another idea is that perhaps the GT120 should be in the primary pci-e slot?? if it isnt there now...

OK, I removed the GT120 and octane starts.
This can't be the solution ..... any other idea?
@pixelrush, does it mean I can install the 195.62 Driver instead the recommended 190.38?
A sidenote:
Otherwise next crash, when hitting the Venus balls at the top ( Some tooltips were nice, to give it a real name :_) )
Same popup report. Havn't checked yet, if it is reported.

which slot is the GTX285 in atm?
yes you could try 195.62 if you need but maybe its the card order.
we look at that first.

The GTX 285 is in the first slot, the GT120 in the second

ok its just a thought that there might be a requirement to have a gpu for display in the primary slot and the cuda dedicated one in the second.
I am not sure but I think the o/s will not like the only display card in the second.
Octane may not like that combination either.
I dont know this for sure but you could try it.

Hi,
First try to get octane working propperly by using v0.81a with only your GTX285 installed,
and the correct drivers. (as in the readme.txt)

Got it.
The problem stays first, when my second monitor was in the DVI Port of the GT120 ( Works in V0.7 )
Then, the third monitor was activated. ( Havn't one, but it displays in the preferences because of the DVI ports, so I have to look which one with which GPU)
So, if someone stumbled upon this thread:
-Use for two monitors only one GPU.
-Deactivate the third monitor with the lower GPU in the monitor preferences.
-Or use only one monitor ( the right GPU one ) and never switch to the second, otherwise you have to install the cuda driver again. Onced you're switched, you never come back

-or....remove the second card
Edit: Fogot to mention that the lower GPU is the default one in octane. So you have to check the right one in the Device Manager.
Seems that pixelrush is right about the slots. But I'm too lazy for trying that out.

I think if you put the GT120 in the first slot to run a monitor for display and disconnect the 2 monitors from the GTX285 in the second slot when you want to dedicate its use to Octane you will be fine.
This is the order of my cards and I dont have to change the Octane device manager setting, the lesser card is assumed to be for display.
I am pretty sure a single card needs to be in the first slot for the o/s.
With Octane taking over the GTX285 for cuda if it is in the first slot no gpu will be found for display by the o/s. If you start switching around there will be a conflict over the driver use or there will appear to be no driver or display at all.
The order wouldnt matter ordinarily for just adding extra monitors.
Even if you are a little lazy you would be better off to change it around and then all is happy and easy to use with no list of donts.

for your information:
v0.7 uses the fastest card in the system
v0.8 and v0.81, use the fastest card in the system, and if there are 2 cards with the same speed rating, it will use the 2nd card by default (eg the non-display card)
