Get a replacement if you have warranty on it. Don’t try weird BIOS flashing stuff.
That Nvidia message is also a sign of GPU core failure.

I would also RMA the card.
Try clean install windows and check it again. If this does not work RMA your card.

This is properly coincidental but I have had 2 PNY cards fail on me.
I think their quality control is bad just my opinion.
I will never buy that brand again.
Right now im using evga. Never had any other brand fail on me

I had similar issues with gainward (non reference 580s) and I'll never go back to it. I also had evga 680 (rock solid, failed couple of times, but great cards overall) and now I have asus - titan and non reference 780 strix are 100% solid.
But I perceived PNY as high end cards, especially for pro. This is surprising.

There is also the chance that you just got the faulty 5 cards out of 1 million produced that work just fine. Just an example of course but you might just got the unlikely odds.

2 Questions, for anyone:
(1) Let me ask, and I know I wrote the post myself questioning if is the VBios not meshing with the motherboard BIOS as opposed to a faulty 2nd core....Am I even making sense in thinking it might be that only 1 of 2 cores is affected by the BIOS incompatibility? Or, is such a thing possible, as in the whole VBios package, if incompatible, could possibly prevent one of its cores from working right, while the other functions.
(2) I wish I could stick in another PC and test. Know of any tests I could run that would give me a clearer picture if it is a faulty core? Win-7 device manager, GEForce control panel, Heaven Benchmark, and GPU-Z make it look like it is functioning normal, it just can't do something in Octane Render that its non-identical twin can
(3) how about this - would modifying (raising or lowering) anything (ie fan speed, voltage, etc) in a program like MSI Afterburner set the card as more stable, or more powerful, to the extent it could be then used in a test with Octane Render, such that it could rule out hardware fault?
Thanks a Bajillion.

to #1 - does Z have 2 bioses for its 2 gpus loaded separately? If so their numbers should be identical, am I right?
to #2 - does your cards pass all tests but Octane?
to #3 - increasing voltage helped me with 580 to get some stability but higher temps (watercooled cards) but after months I was so tired with 'failures' I RMAed them. If you have any chance to RMA yours easily you'll save your time with new cards.

agree with Smicha. Check different drivers on clean instal (as far as I understant You already done that), try to tweak a card a bit to see if (voltage/fan speed) changes makes any difference..
If that doen't solve Your problems right away, simply RMA card & You'll get new one. There are some chance taht You might have faulty card that any of Your tries to make it work stable would fail eventuly.
also I would write about this issue to official contacts explaining the problem, they might have some sort of solution if it has somethign to to do with anything 'bout hardware.
