Just to say hi, and as you all know i too think this is too much time without our Fuzzy. He is great and that might be the problem. I'm here since the beginning of the plugin, and in 2 month he put Octane4SU in a place where no other rendering engine (inside SU) imagine to achieve. Lots of bugs lots of frustration sometimes but the plugin is great...sadly its not at 100%
Im with Seeker...no fault to Fuzzy...he really did a great job in a short time Otoy gave to him, but many times this happens, something that is so good start to be dangerous to other major software's, especially
expensive ones. If we combine the price of SU Pro + Octane and think what can be done inside SU (not even saying what can be done in StandALone) its really a great deal.
Of course we have Octane 2.16 in SU, but not the
real Octane 2.16 because many features from the Kernels are missing (GI Clamp, Coherent...etc etc) and all other features that are in the roadmap. So the option is export to StandAlone to render final images....but Glimpse have you ever opened a exported Octane4SU file??...lol

...its hell on wheels Just impossible to work...ou just can edit render target/camera/kernels/etc...because there are a million nodes and you cannot navigate in a node system like that.
This simple example the Geometry group has 346 inputs, and to each input there are 3 or 4 more nodes.....
zoom out out
zoom out even more...Display just starts to lag lag and if you want to find a node its almost impossible
But there is a reason to that....memory usage in this plugin is great, all geometry is scattered...really great but then the Standalone file is not usable.
Glimpse you know that SU is more then just a box modeling tool.
And you said something that I don't agree, but is just my opinion...well I'm an architect so a big part of my job is to explain to a client an idea, there are many tools to do that...speech, drawings, technical drawings, physical 3d models, etc, etc, virtual 3d model, and simulation of the end result (rendered images/video).
Client don't build houses just looking at drawings, the same way when someone's want a car they look at different models, magazines, photos, etc...the same happens to buildings. So SU and Octane(or other rendering engine) are tools that can (and are increasing)be used in every part of a project...since the initial idea (volumes/shapes) do the technical information in the construction process, and to the minimal detail of the client taste in the decoration of his house/building.
So imho its a massive product...that can be used to CG & visualization level, its just a question of knowledge of the artist.
As someone smarter than me said....its not the brush that make the artist, but what the artist makes with the brush.
That artist can be an architect, a designer, a engineer...etc etc etc.
The big point to me is that Octane4Sketchup is really dangerous to big CG companies/artist because of what can achieve. Without render, SU stiles/shadows are by far the best real time 3d visualization tool for architecture that I know. When we join the Octane viewport we just blow away the competition.
The same as Blender (that is the best price/produce combination with Octane), that can do almost, or everything, that others BIG paid software's do all together. But is harder to learn, and not as simple to show to clients without render the visualization 3D model is not so attractive.
Blender is my 2nd choice, and no other 3d software fill my needs, especially because the price is unaffordable to Portugal economy.
If Fuzzy read this post, please give us the kernel features from Octane 2.21 and we be silent for a few months
Hope you are all great
and best of luck in your work.
cheers
