doesn't make sense over 750,850 if you're not going to add more gpu later

Let me share an experience I had recently. I think you might be having the same problem.

For a year, I've been working with 3 GPUs and a LEPA 1600W PSU. A month ago, my PC started to shutdown immediately when I tried to do rendering using Octane on all 3 cards. When rendering with 1 or 2 cards, all was fine and dandy. After a lot fiddling and testing, I came to the conclusion that my PSU was not able to deliver enough power anymore. It worked fine at first but somehow something broke inside it...happens to the best... it still delivered enough to power the PC and 2 GPUs, but the second I enabled the 3rd, the spike in power usage caused the entire PC to shutdown immediately.

At the moment I put in my old Corsair 850W PSU with 2 cards, and all is good again!

Currently waiting for my PSU to arrive back from RMA...

Maybe you can find another PSU somewhere to test with??

for sure try to RMA the unit, but get something before as that might take a while & You should try with different PSU before to be sure it caused the shutdown..

a friend of mine working with electronics said that this is pretty usual problem..-some capacitors got worn out & they can't deliver required levels to feed the system & then some protection kick in to prevent parts from damage..Your PSU might not be fried right away, but these turndowns are not healthy not for PSU nor for entire system. I would advice not to use if long..

if You don't want to have two units as possibly RMA one is going to come back, simply go to some local shop, get one..use for two weeks (or something like that, depending on local policies) and get it back afterwards. In EU we have 14days, in Norway some shop have 30-45 days =) so it's enough time to get something cool tested (like passive unit =)

great feedback

I think I will pick up an extra unit since I was thinking of building another computer. Will RMA the device and see what happens.

thanks everyone for the replies and the advice!

Hello,

I just wanted to follow up with an update. It looks like my PSU (Seasonic X-1250) was the issue. Fortunately, I believe I can RMA it.

Picked up an EVGA Supernova 1300G2 and am really impressed with how quiet it is. Performed some of the similar tests that made my computer shut down and no issues. Seems to navigate much smoother.

Great price for this much wattage. Thanks again.

Me too faced the same problem long back, as i found it was 12V rail problem ( PSU ) as it dropped below 9.0 to shut down the PC

Personally feel it might be with CPU overheating or Power at 12V rail might be the problem
check in bios if everything is ok or check with Hardware monitor software ( http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ )
