Octane for interiors, if well used, is not even comparable with Corona. The main problem with Corona is that is a lot more sterile and hard to give a render an intense mood. Octane is great from this point of view, the color variations, the light, really give the feeling of an analog camera.

Intresting wastzzz, havent tried out any interiors because my office work more with product visualization. Could you go into more detail about what you mean with "well used"? Your Industrial building renovation was also fantastic, by the way.

Control of lighting, composition, framing, materials. Octane has all the cards to produce stunning images, because of its analog feeling. I love it. About Corona, it's easier to find good renders because its community got a lot of very advanced users, I noticed.

I'm not so convinced about that statement... Have you looked at the interiors gallery (http://render.otoy.com/gallery2.php) or were you just referring to the forum gallery? There is some pretty good work in both imo. I'd like to hear from you more specifically where you think interiors fall short compared to Corona.

I've mostly looked in the forum. I think most interiors I've seen looks good from afar but when you zoom in to 100% or close to 100 there is alot of noise, especially behind specular materials. And of course you can let it render longer but then you lose the edge that is Octane and that is the speed of it, if it wasnt for speed Octane is still behind renderers like vray (multi uvw maps, light exclude and so on) because its still a very new render, I'm sure it will catch up eventually. If you look at Corona interiors, they are in most cases almost noise free.

If by 'good interiors' you meant clean renders, perhaps. But there are some awesome 'clean' interiors here as well. Small light sources and lots of bounces are an issue with all renderers. Perhaps Corona solves this better. Paquito and a few others have achieved great daylight / HDRI interior results with DL kernel in Octane, which makes them blazingly fast and let's the GPU come into it's own. But it's a bit of an art and of course DL is not the best for some scenes. Octane has some way to go with this type of scene on PT/PMC but at least we can throw more GPU's at the problem - easier than with CPU's.

Thanks! I used HDRi environment and a couple of area lights. It rendered really fast. I deliberately didn't let the engine clear out the noise completely. I like a little noise :)

I'm not saying that the only thing to a "good interior" is a clean render, of course the feeling, mood, lightning and textures are key but it is something to take in to consideration. Part of a good image is a clean result or if you want images with some noise (which I also do, there's noise in real life images aswell) an even distribution of it. In alot of interior renders I have seen big parts of the image is clean but then behind a glasstable or wall there's alot more noise and this takes away from the reality of the image. But as I stated in my earlier post I haven't tried making an interior in Octane yet so I'm just basing this of what I've seen on the forum. And as you said there is also alot of fantastic interiors achieved with Octane on this forum aswell, and I think there is probably alot of truth to what wastzzz said that the Corona community has alot of very advanced users. In the end I love using Octane and just want to make sure that I am able to use it in all my projects Productviz, interiors, exteriors and so on. But it's intresting to see whats happening with Corona aswell, it will be fun to test out the interactive part of it when they launch and compare it to Octane.

I agree I think the noise in these images mimics camera noise very well and gives more realism to the image. Really good work and sorry for turning your post in to a discussion.
