You also have to watch which case you buy for your system becuse you might not be able to fit the 4th GPU becase maybe the case does not have dual slot holes for it.

So I showed my wife the mad scientist like bit coining style open air rigs on google and she didn't freak. Her main comment was I'd need to keep it in the garage. Bwahahahahaha (puts on mad scientist lab coat).

So the remaining question is this:
I know that for example, Nvidia recommends something like a 550W power supply if you have a single 780 gtx in it. I'm guessing that means the 780 itself uses a bit less, say 250W?

If that's true, what size of power supply would I need for 4 cards?

My guess is 1250W. Is that more or less what you guys use?

Look at ebay for p8p67 ws - there are some below 170$. I was lucky to get one for 60$ :) And today I am receiving my 3 new 780 6gb. With my titan - 4 cards.

PS. Some time ago I tested p8z77 ws and I had to give it back - my two monitors went black after couple of minutes of the system activity. Maybe this was a faulty piece. Or maybe this was due to an integrated graphics.

Sure you can go with 7x 780 on couple of mobos. Last day I found very good info about usb powered raiser

Good luck :)

As for psu - today I'll be testing my 1350W psu with 4 cards - 3x 780 and 1x titan. 1 titan overclocked [email protected] draw about 400W (or even less).
So today I'll post precise results.

Just for now: titan + gtx 780 draw 540W together (overclocked).

Is that *total* ie including motherboard as well as the two gpus?

System at idle (I turned off two monitors) 140-150W
System at idle (I turned on two monitors) 190 W (so both monitors use about 50W)

System (without monitors) + TITAN (Octane DL) 888core/6000mem: 320 W (I couldn't set the clock to default 836 on core due to watercooling and very low temps 34C under full load at 888 on core, 34C! ) (180W titan only)
System (without monitors) + TITAN (Octane DL) 1006core/6000mem: 335 W (195W titan only)
System (without monitors)+ TITAN overclocked to 1200core/7000mem (Octane DL): 365W (365-140=225W titan only)

System (without monitors)+ titan 1006core +780 993core, both 6000mem 520W (380W both cards, about 190W each)
System (without monitors)+ titan 1200core +780 1228core, both 7000mem 575W (435W both cards, titan 225W, 780 210W)

in the measurements there are also included modem, router and printer at idle, so I think you can subtract 10W

PS. + d5 pump + 8x 140mm fans (30W)

I still have no room to put 4 gpus into the case. I'll wait for waterblocks - I assume that entire system will draw (without monitors) max 1000W.

What is nice about 780 that its fan is frozen until 50-60C are reached. so I set its fan curve to start at 0 at 40% of its power and it is quiet and temps at idle are same as titan on water (about 25C) and 67C at load. But bear in mind that this is only one 780 without its hot 'neighbours'. When I put all of them into the case the hot air will strongly affect their temps.

That case is the coolest case ever! Does it really exist or only on rendered images?
