In the meantime, Paul has just added a stepped type of gradient node to the MODO plugin. The details are in the API Cache thread.

Dear Friends,

I've just spotted this topic and I think I can share how I did this.

I've put Random Colour Texture into Colour Correction Node, and then set Contrast to maximum value.

That gives me random distribution of black and white colours without grays, which is probably what you're looking for...
