Is Octane going to be able to be faster than the Modo tests shown here in this thread (early pages)?
http://forums.luxology.com/discussion/t ... 218&page=6
Or is the glass material rendering (refraction & frosted) going to be improved to match the Maxwell test shown in the same thread? I found the results posted in the thread very helpful. Brought up some great points of difference between these tools.

@radiance you were right about the initial material settings. sorry for that. and now it looks a lot more alike.
Looking forward to test again on 2.5

It would be nice if you can use a more modern GPU, so the comparison is fair,
eg one Xeon CPU vs one GTX480, instead of 2 XEONs against an old GTX200 series...

I don't know, I think that equal comparisons should be done on a dollar amount. so maybe you have 2 Xeons, and you have 4 GTX 480's and see how it compares then, not to say anything of the completed to un-completed projects.

Someone let it cook forever and check if in the process it will get a glass like maxwell

This wasn´t about time but about getting materials right. But now I used only 8 cores (1 Proc) on Maxwell. So I guess it perfectly suits your graphic somewhere on the refractive website with the i720 to GPU comparison...

why don'y you post your OCS project files here and have some people with a modern GPU of equal cost render it ?

+1
yes, please post the ocs.
like to try it on the gtx580
edit: i think found it already in the forums (page 1&2):
http://www.itchy-animation.co.uk/render/octane1.zip
http://www.itchy-animation.co.uk/render ... 20mat1.zip
you need to download both zips because of some hdr used in mat_render.ocs file
i just changed transmission/reflection of the specular material both to white and set the focus to the glass object.
the glas looks bad, i will tweak it later and give it another try then..
now i simply used "clear glass" out of the octane "live DB".
3min:
7min:
next time i will stop working in backround to give the full gpu power to octane.
i will test the same ocs on my second workstation (intelQ6600/ gtx470)
cheers,
dave
