AFAIK What you're looking for is a post effect.
A bleach bypass, sharpening, also playing with color curves will do the trick.
Octane has only one AA filtering algorithm.
No OOB solution here.

Tip for Photoshop
1. Duplicate your layer image
2. Apply filter High Pass
3. Change blend mode to Overlay
4. Bingo!

I must agree with this blurry effect in 3dmax plugin version. I cannot compare with Standalone version because I don't use it, but comparing with Vray my customers use to note that the images doesn't have "enough resolution" they say.
I'm whiling to find an answer because I prefer to use Octane than Vray.
