Comparison update to first post.

nice comparison, O =) the biggest diff in the picture seems to be the ligh inside the bowl & bit more of saturation in some areas. Migh be the case of taste, or sometimes rendertimes - that leads to diff conclution, but for me I still preffer PT version. & it needs less tweekin' in process.

For me the PMC version looks a bit better... especially the SSS in the tulips and the lighting inside the bowl. Nice tests btw.

I agree with both of you. It looks like the PT renders a little faster, but the PMC is definitely brighter in the "caustic" areas: glass bowl, flower petals. I guess if this were the case, then it would be a matter of personal preference (or deadline) which kernel to go with. One thing I haven't tried yet is to increase PT samples to hit that same 38min mark to see if the darker areas brighten up. This was just a simple sample to sample test.

Ok so check this out:

I am a glutton for punishment, so instead of being satisfied with the results, I pushed things a little further.

I added some subtle atmosphere/haze using a specular material box, and some dust particles. This obviously increased the time dramatically, but what the heck. This is why we're here. =)

Upon playing with the specular settings to add atmosphere, I accidentally ticked the 'dispersion' box and these were the results:

And here is the result this morning after an overnight render:

PMC 20,000 samples; 8 bounces; caustic blur 0.3 (17hrs 30 mins)
RES 4000 x 3000 pixels
TRIANGLES: 1,722,805 (5,873,497 with dust)

Pure Octane, zero Photoshop or post of any kind.

Now, I am not a huge fan of Chromatic Abberation, but I left an almost imperceptible amount that you can really only see in the high res.

Good, I really hate when it's overdone an everything looks like it's taken with really crap lenses. Bothers the photographer in me.

I didn't know PT was that much faster then PMC or is that because you have a major glass piece in the scene?
