I'd just like to thank you again - I saw the video once more now while following the procedures in Blender and it was extremely useful. Especially the light emission part is fantastic to play around with, and it saved me weeks of trial and error.
May I ask if some kind of bump- or displacement maps were used for the wooden table, or if they were just flat unwrapped pictures?
Particularly the first example you used looked very real, to the point where I simply don't understand how it's done if it's just a mapped 2D picture...

(Off-Topic) Update to the LiveDB situation:
I noticed that many of the textures are listed under OTOY's name and that they are all copyrighted by one contributor. So I asked the supporters if these particular materials belong to OTOY - as opposed to Octane users - and if OTOY in that case would be able to grant users the right to use them commercially.
Octane's support looked into it and the answer was confirmative - these textures are free for commercial use, for licensed Octane customers!
So that's very good news. Just thought some of you might want to know.

Thank you all, nice comments.
@justavisitor, most wood textures from LiveDB Otoy use two pictures.
One is for Diffuse color and one is mapped to Normal input, this is a real normal map.
This is the best way to simulate real geometry with 2d pictures.
If you import an texture you can see the images in Blender Image/UV editor.
Cheers, mib.
