no prob. i have attached 2 command scripts to start/stop the aero service...

Ahhh thanks - had to run them as admin, but got the service stopped. When the lomg-winded render I have going ends (tomorrow morning, after I wake), I will see what effect that has.

Well, I like the image (done with plain 3Delight ... sorry!

) so that's alright!
As for the 'trails' that happens with, or without, Aero being active - but it is a function of Windows, the viewport not being refreshed only means that the 'old' display stays put when the new positioning of the dialog box is done, so don't worry about that - I was using it as an example of the non-updating/refreshing screen estate.
