On a different note, I'm trying to utilize Octane for some basic product renderings and I am still struggling with getting the lighting correct. I'm providing environment lighting through HDRI..Any advice is much appreciated.
Try to play around with hdr, it's rotaiton & all the other parameters like gamma, intensity..in addition to camera effects. The environment in sudio shots is one of the most important thing, as it provides not only iluminaion, but reflections too.

Love octane for sudio renders as it's insanely fast for 'open scenes' (have played with this Joey Roth Speaker a bit earlier. It wasn't the most reflective surface (as i tend to go for matte materials) so i don't need to worry about reflections much, but while i got desired effect of lighting, I changed quite 'a few' hdrs =)

Tip is simple: tweek parameters You haven't mind to touch at all - these might bring some nice insights, just play around =) this is way more afordable then running any typical renderer (unless you have like rt GPU vertsion, though these ussually doesn't allow to use some functions..)

Its definitly your max depth setting and vignette what causes your trouble a bit.

Play with camera settings a bit.

I did this product render also with octane: http://pure3d.de/en/layouts/p3d/proj/We ... r_Komp.jpg

Hey nice render, mbetke. Did you just use turbulence bump map on a glossy material for the powder coat texture? It has taken me forever to hone in on a good setting for powder coat.
