Really beautiful render, was the worn away paint done with Alpha mapping revealing a brushed metal type material underneath or was it all one layer?

I saw your model on CGSociety and thanks to your awesome render, this is how I found out about Octane Render. You should get some commission! Ha! Anyways great work. Is it pretty easier to paint textures in mudbox? I've never used it before, but I mainly use Maya.

would come at some point .. but not about the iron man .. as i plan to also make the object files availlable together with the video .

yes all texturing is done in mudbox. . i a rather simplistic way

for what it is worth .. a screen shot from mudbox ..
as you can see.. i only use two layer .. one for teh scratch and one for teh dirt .. nothing fancy
