I've got 240 cores and have had this problem when testing high resolution renders with a lot of bounces. I've not had time to test with the registry setting (also testing under win7 x64), I'll give it a try later.

I am not clued up on the detail of using SLI but if Edwin can disable SLI - in his graphics card settings? and dedicate one to Octane the other can run the display and perhaps this problem will not appear on his laptop.
The Alienware ought to well engineered enough to handle a graphics workload.
If he was rendering a lot and often it though it be an idea to alternate assignment between gpus.
The slowness he is experiencing might be due to the way Octane is using /seeing the SLI as one card?
Another thought would be to set Octane.exe to run at 'below normal priority' so other processes can interupt at a micro level - a bit like pausing Octane.
I have an old pc I use for messing about with various renderers and quite often I find Nvidia nView Desktop Manager will throw a wobbly if it cant access cpu time. Consider disabling that too while you render if you have it or anything else that might want to access cpu/gpu.
Hope these ideas help

this doesn't seem to apply anymore in Windows 7 (64bit).
Only vista and XP seem to feature the reg-settings.
I just got around to testing the registry settings and they worked just fine on Win7. I've attached the setting I ended up using, which was a increase of TdrDelay & TdrDdiDelay to 6 & 15 respectively (three times that of the defaults). A restart is required before it takes effect.
I also tried disabling it altogether (TdrLevel: 0) but that was not a good idea — got a screen freeze and had to do a hard reboot.

Hi N30N,
i completely forgot to add the keys manually and only searched for them in the reg. Using the same settings as you reg-file it seems to wok perfectly.
I tried my cheap onboard 9400 and it didn't crash not even after 25 minutes (normally it would after 1 minute).
Next task is to improve the framerate and samples/sec.
Thx for the help.

As seen here:

I tried other drivers as well though.

oh, okay thanks
Yeah my 250 is not listed there.
BUT I thought you needed the DEVELOPER driver, { one of the
three listed in the directions with Octane - to run it.
that driver has NOT been updated to win 7 - 64 afaik.

Hi,
we're releasing another demo in 2 days that gives much better navigation performance and solves a lot of stability issues...
