I used Paq's and rebooted and it seems like it allows me to go a bit higher though mem consumption also went up. Still, good to know it's a matter of having an adequate videocard.
Here's another 1 minute test with the smoothing problem solved and and a bit better lighting:

ps. When I use a higher render resolution the fireflies in the windows (glass material) are more noticeable, and seem to take a lot longer to clean up. Are there any tweaks or special settings to take into account when rendering transparent glass? Is there a way to make it similar to "architectural glass" and therefore faster to trender?

no, just make your're normal face outwards.
there's no architectural glass material in octane yet...

What about using a glossy material with a bit of transparency? I havent tested it doh, just a thought.
