Hi everyone. I am about to buy Octane Render. Probably this weekend and i will also be selling my old 9800GT. Therefore ill be getting a new graphics card for Octane. I need some suggestions. Im willing to spend up to $180. I am interested in the GTX460. This is the one im looking into:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6491184&CatId=3670. Its regular price is $225 but on sale for $149. Do you think it is a good deal :?: Do you have any other suggestions :?: I should mention I only have 1 PCI-Express 2.0 slot, and a 550W power supply, 4GB RAM and an intel Core2 Quad 2.66Ghz CPU.

Lastly ive noticed that when i am navigating in windows 7 with Octane on. Windows is extremely slow. I understand this is because Octane is making use of my whole Graphics Card, but is there a solution to this :?:

Thanks,
Julian :)

Hi,

The card is good. The solution you ask about is to use two cards, one cheap one like your 9800 for the display card and the grunty one just for the rendering.

Yep i agree with Erik.Keep the 9800 and use it as the display card along with a GTX460/560/570.The only thing is you will then need maybe a 750watt power supply and a replacement 775 motherboard to put both cards into.one with 2 full width PCIE slots running at X8 speed or above.
