Thank you very much, Lewis. Your results confirm my suspicion that the PTX options are still a nice publicity stunt. Yes, this function has potential, but it will take a long time before its full implementation, most likely.

But you see sume of my scenes going to 250-300% faster with RTX on - right ?

OTOY said not all functions can use RTX (RTX is basically different cores type on GPU so we still use CUDA cores but they offload SOME stuff to RT cores which have specific use, they are not to replace CUDA cores) and they said in future they will enable/offload more features to RTX cores.

In some scenes my 4 GPUs "become" 10GPUs with one button click, that is pretty amazing IMHO :).

I see that in your scenes there is a wide spread and there is no clear method for understanding in what situations the effect of the PTX option will be, and in what situations it will not. Therefore, this is all so far only a demonstration of potential opportunities, but not a real opportunity that can be taken into account in your work.

Oh but there is way to know what stuff will speedup, easily, If you have a LOT of instances/geometry (actual polyocunt in millions) it will speedup massive. If you have simple scenes, low polycount, no instances (or very few) it will mos likely be on margin of test oscillation 2-3% difference only.

BTW it is called RTX not PTX ;)

I usually have pretty heavy scenes, with a lot of instances, volumetrics, hair, etc. But I don't see any significant speed gain in either these scenes or the simpler ones. 3-5% is also an increase, but these are not the values that are worth worrying about.
OK. let it be called RTX - I'm not against it.

That is weird then, be sure that you have proper drivers and you actually turned RTX on in LW plugin panel/settings, also you need to have drivers newer than 435.x to be able to use RTX. My first tests were also in WTF mode 'coz i've seen no gains or 2-3% but then i installed 44x drivers and finally seen results properly speedup :).

If you have some scene you can upload I'm willing to test/see on my machines what might be problem of not seeing speedup so please send me PM with exported scenes if you can and we will work it out together..

P.S. This is given/know but i hope you are testing that on RTX GPUs (Series 20X0) and not on older GPUs (series 10x0, 9x0 ....) which do not have RT cores ?

cheers

I made a test based on my favorite test scene - almost 12 million polygons of pure geometry (5000+ objects, a lot of heavy buildings and trees with 300 000 - 1200 000 poly's) and about 15 million polygons in instances. With PTX on, I got 32 minutes of rendering. When turned off, I got 25 minutes of rendering. That is, if on such scenes I do not get acceleration from using the PTX function, then I don’t know where else I can get it.
Test was on RTX 2070 and GTX 1080, 64 ram.

15 million in instances seems very little if trees are 300k-1.2 million ? That is like only 15 trees instanced ?
Are you sure you didn't just clone stuff (5000 objects seems a lot if is not instances ?)

But as I said pack the scene and send PM with download link and i'll examine and let you know results, for me it's working with bigspeedups so that's why i wonder what did you do differently.
BTW also notice your 1080 has no RTcores so maybe mixing those two GPUs make it go slower since 1080 can't use RTX speedup, not sure (maybe OTOY can clarify on that).

Octane says he counted 5563 objects - I don't know how he counts them. There are several dozen trees - in fact, the range of the number of polygons is from 40,000 to 1,200,000. Plus flowers, plants, etc. This is not a forest - this is part of the city.

Ok, and how much Out Of CORE RAM is using when you start rendering? Because from what i've read it seems that OOC usage limits/disablees RTX speedup/function.
