How do you project a background image?

Does anyone here know how to project a background image to the camera similar to how it is done in Modo?
I can only figure out how to do a front projection onto a physical object in the scene. But by doing so my background image is affected by the DOF on the camera which is not what I want.

Have you tried setting the Kernel->Background Image?
