Hello thekwen,
I sent this issue to developers, meanwhile you can try to set
Global preferences > Trouble shooting:
Enable Broadcast PRE EVAL notifications: NEVER
Enable Broadcast notifications on frame change : NEVER or 'Same as Kernel "broadcast render" with hair and fur animation.

I can't reproduce your issue.
Said that would be better to use Octane RGB image texture node as in my screenshot.

Hi,
You asked right but I gave up. This bitmap case totaly difrent. Even empty scene, it is crahing. I am using 4.04_-_6.17 it is working.

Hi Buraq,
this is the right Octane RGB image texture node workflow, it doesn't make much sense using 3dsMax bmp node.
I can't replicate your crash, if you can share an issued crash file, I will try to figure out and report to developers.
