Octane nodes in Houdini locked

Hey guys,

I've just moved over to Houdini from C4D and trying to get Octane up and running, but each of the SHOP nodes have a lock icon next to them and I can't drag the shaders onto the geometry.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

The locking of the SHOP node should not be a problem to apply the material to the objects. You can try to drag the material directly to the "Material" parameter in the OBJ node material options. In any case, be aware that the SHOP nodes are now deprecated by SideFX, so you should start to work inside the new /mat network, using the Octane material nodes directly or building the materials inside the Octane material builder vopnet. It is always the same workflow found in Mantra.

Thanks,

In this case different consideration :
Node are locked but you can unlock them using right clic allow editing of content.
Locked do not means unusable but no editable unless you tell houdini you want to do so.
Here it doesnt work for one other reason.
The object you use have already a shader at the sop level. Materials at the sop level overwrite the object level material. This the way you deal with multi material per single object in houdini
It doesnt work because this default rubber toy material is a mantra material.
You can delete this material using a delete attribute sop after the testgeometry_rubbertoy1 sop and select shop_materialpath in the primitive attributes section.
And you voila you good to go. this will work with the old Shop context and the new mat context too.
