Dear all,

This is the first maintenance release of Octane 2018, to fix a variety of issues that came up.

A reminder: to use Octane 2018.1, you need to have a Studio or Enterprise subscription license. To use network render, you need to have an Enterprise license.

Important: we recommend that you upgrade your NVIDIA driver to version 419.17 or newer. There has been some critical fixes in this newer version.

For introductory material on Octane 2018, please see the 2018.1 release post.

Changes since 2018.1:

  • Fixed universal material specular transmission with roughness 0 rendering incorrectly.
  • Fixed excess noise when using a medium with universal material.
  • Fixed SDF rendering black when using universal material on a flat surface with normal (0,0,1).
  • Fixed regression of top left corner of denoised images rendering black pixels.
  • Increased max number of transparent intersections to 200. This fixes some scenes that have a lot of alpha maps.
  • Fixed incorrect maximum samples rendered when deep pixel is enabled without render passes.
  • Fixed object layers when used with displacement materials.
  • Fixed displacement on uv set 2 and 3, if uv set 1 is invalid.
  • Lua: fixed octane.node.getPinInfoIx(...).name which was returning the label instead of the pin name.
  • Fixed Cryptomatte when used with network rendering
  • Fixed a lockup and crash if stopping rendering immediately before receiving the first set of results.
  • Fixed vertex attributes crashing when used over network render.
  • Enterprise versions have now support for offline activation with dongles.

We are currently experiencing some issues loading scenes made in V4 that crash when loading in 2018.x
How can we debug this? these are enormous scenes with assets scattered through our server, so we cannot upload them anywhere...
Should we send you the OCS file only?

Thanks
Kind regards
Filipe

Thanks for the report. Are you using standalone when it crashes? Does the application just disappear, or are you seeing a render failure? If the latter, would you be able to send us the contents of your log window?

HI there. Some more find on the topic of Cryptomattes:
Hope you are able to fix it :-)

"Crypto Material Node" creates new Crypto IDs if the same material is assigned to different meshes.

Here´s a video to show a little better what I mean:

Also the OrbX is attached here.

I asked this question several days ago in the C4D forum, and have no answer. I am quite confused. Maybe someone over here can help me.

I got my upgraded computer back and reinstalled everything. With my new rig, comes my "newness" to a 2018 subsciption license and I am wondering, why I can not activate my GTX970 and GTX780. Please see the atatched image. I can activate them in settings, but upon rendering they are black and deactivated. Going back to settings shows them the two GPUs in question without check mark deactivated again.

A: It is because I dont understand my license?
B: Was my PC hardware messed up in the PC store while upgrading and transitioning my system to a new case and new motherboard?
C: Does 2018 not support certain GPU architectures?

Hi,
if you own a Studio subscription license, now 2018/2019 is limited to max 2x GPUs.
Only Enterprise All Access licenses don’t have limitations.
