One way would be to use daylight with an HDRI skymap with another sun. That way in your render you will see the Octane default Sun as well as the sun in the HDRI map. Just will need to re-position the HDRI skymap as needed.

Mutliple suns has been discussed, but first we plan to implement fast directional (distant area/point/spot) lights you can add through spectron in 2019.2+

Hi bepeg4d,

Can we have separate environment sphere/dome for each object, similar to Vray

For example I have a product with coat and hight reflective properties and reflective surface on which this product stands. And I want to apply separate lighting to product and separate for backdrop surface
Now we have exclusion of light passes in Octane and we can easily control on which object light affect, but unfortunately we don't have dome light and this technique doesn't work regarding HDRI lighting

Cheers

A "directional" or "infinite" light would be great. It is something I miss a lot since moving away from Maya and V-Ray to C4D and Octane. I'd use about 5 or 6 Maya Directional lights to create "pings passes" on cars or a nice directional light pass.

It can be worked around but it's just really nice and convenient to be able to rotate multiple directional lights to create the desired effect and not worry about position of the light as only the rotation is important with directional lights.

A good work around in the interim is to use HDR Light Studio. As far as I'm aware a "directional" or "infinite" light is just a very small and intense point/circle that is mapped an infinite distance from the camera in a similar to how an HDRI is mapped. Knowing this you can simply make a very small and intense round light in HDRLS and move it and duplicate as required. If you want to make the shadows more or less crisp you can make the round light bigger or small and adjust the intensity to your needs.
