Hello,
Beppe referred me here. (I don't know why since my issue is with the plugin)

I own both Standalone and Cinema 4d plugin 4.02 R3. I use x4 RTX 2080 ti in two workstations. One is an i7, the other is a Threadripper 2950x. They both run Redshift 3d with no problems, all my CC apps run with no problems. However, with Octane in cinema 4d, when I set an animation to render >using denoiser< my computer just turns off. If I turn off the denoiser everything renders perfectly. Also, even when I use the denoiser in the Live Viewer I get NO shutdowns. These shutdowns only happen when I render the animations to cinema 4d's picture viewer. This occurs 100% of the time. On BOTH machines. A few points to be clear...

It is NOT the PSU
Shutdown does not occur in Standalone, only in c4d plugin when rendering an animation
Live Viewer has no problem with denoiser
C4d's Picture Viewer does have a problem with denoiser
I have tried different cards
I just received my new Threadripper workstation and same shutdown occurs
I tried different outlets
Redshift 3d and all other apps/plugs run fine
Other than the shutdowns my two systems have been extremely stable
I have tried different drivers

Having a computer just turn off when using this feature can cause damage and if this problem is not on your end then you should contact Nvidia immediately to report it just as I did. You should also have a testing rig there that can test the latest gpus up to x4 because I was able to reproduce the shutdown 100% of the time on my new workstation.

The denoiser is really amazing and would love to use it on future projects, sadly I had to redo a project from scratch in Redshift instead since Octane was too heavily dependent on the denoiser feature in my use case. I lost a lot of time and money on a release labeled "Stable"

Any help or info on this would be great. Thank you,
-Alex

Please, try recommended 419.17 and also 417.71 drivers @FAZ.
"I have tried different drivers" - isn't exactly informative.

Using DDU for each attempt, I literally tried every driver 417.xx and up except for the one released on march 25th. I'll try that next when I get some time.

UPDATE...

I just tried the latest driver 319.67 starting all the way back from 317.xx and the power shut-downs still persist. This time however shut-down after 4 stress tests of a couple of scene files. Again, no other gpu heavy apps shutdown neither my i7 or AMD (brand new) workstations other than Octane's denoiser. No other electronics in my room are turning off. No fluctuations of power in my studio area. Just power cutting off on my tower when rendering.

Hello,

we are encountering the exact same issue. Lates 419.67 drivers with 4x GTX1080ti cards. Our system is usually stable (besides the PLX chip issue on our Asus x99-E WS/USB3.1 motherboard). But right now our computer shuts down on every render with denier enabled. It doesn't matter if we enable denier in one or all 4 cards, it just turns the computer off at one point of the render. If we disable denoiser all renders complete no problem. So basically right now the denoiser is not usable for us, which really is a pain, since it saves valuable time. Can someone please see if they have the same issue when they render with denoiser ? BTW, this problem only seems to occur when we render in 1080 resolution. whenever we render in 960 x 540 the render finishes every time. We noticed this by downloading the 2018.1 demo version, which rendered our test with denoiser no problem. But then again, the demo is of course limited to 960 x 540 size, so we gave that a go in 4.02.1 and sure enough it is rendering all through the night without a glitch. Then we just started our render with 1080 resolution and sure enough after 5 minute step computer turns off. It must be a size related problem, we just finished rendering another test in 1280 x 720 resolution and it works no problem. Of course anything over 1080 crashes as well.
If someone can please make a small test with a 1080 animation and denoiser turned on and see if it renders more than 30 frames that would be great. Thanks so much

Best,

Martin
