Hi,

This is the latest stable release of the OctaneRender™ 4.02 for LightWave™ plugin version 4.02.1.0, available for LightWave 11.6, 2015.3, 2018.0 and 2019.0 Windows x64 and OSX. This build has been compiled using the Octane 4.02.1 core.


License upgrade
Unless you have a subscription license, you will have to upgrade your version 3 licenses to version 4. This upgrade is free and can be done via these 4 steps:


To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 387 or higher and if you are working on Mac OS that have a CUDA driver installed that supports at least CUDA 9.1.


New features
To learn more about the new features and improvements of OctaneRender 4, please check out our blog post, but this a quick list of the main new features that have been added:

  • Overhauled geometry engine that dramatically reduces compilation times.
  • Support for out-of-core geometry.
  • AI Light: Improved sampling of emitters, which is a lot more effective than the old method if you have many small emitters that have only a fairly local effect.
  • AI Denoiser: Cleans up your render, which can dramatically cut render times.
  • Global light inclusion/exclusion.
  • Light linking: Allows the inclusion/exclusion of light IDs in the object layer nodes, which can be used to control the direct influence of emitters on objects.
  • Universal material: Merges the properties of the diffuse, glossy, specular and metal materials into one material.
  • UDIM support via the new image tile mode in the texture image node.
  • Dirt support in the info channel passes / kernel.
  • Overall performance improvements in the render engine and in loading HDR and OBJ files.
  • Support to capture direct and indirect light separately in the light render passes.
  • Support for emission on sphere primitives.
  • Planetary environment node.

Hi, when I switch to octane it says there is a mismatch between the plugin and the dll version, but I don't know if it is an error with the release files or my former beta installation still shows up somehow (switched back to Lw, disabled master plugin, removed all references to octane in the plugin utility... erased the old files..)… it crashes eventually.

Any hints?

Hi,

How are you installing the plugin? Perhaps you have a missing Octane.dll file at some place in your HD, especially in your LightWave/bin directory. Be aware that currently you don't need to copy the Octane.dll/.dat files to any place in the HD, they must be located in the same folder used by the plugin .p file, as they are in the plugin .zip file.

Hi,
I didnt do anything wich is not in the readme. The dll is placed in the same forlder than the .p
The uninstalling process is a bit more extensive because I just dont understand from where is reading a different dll version, so I am doing extra clean up. The error shows the dll version to be higher than the current, wich makes sense since I am downgrading from a beta to stable.. Maybe I just wait for the next stable release and see what happends.. will search as well if there could be some other dll somewhere..

Perhaps you have two or more plugin versions added to the Layout at the same time. To be sure you should have in your HD only one version of the plugin, removing all the other builds. If somehow you add two versions of the same plugin to the Layout, a lot of weird issues can happen.

Seems the Network render nodes version does not have the usual zip version download option.
In fact it just installs the standalone, not the executable slave and slave daemon install bats at all.

LW Limit region with denoiser does not work. Is the plan to solve this?

I'm not sure. This seems a core limitation, not related directly with the plugin. The denoiser only works over full frames.
