Volumetric Lights

Hi guys sorry for flooding the forums this week.
New to Modo and relatively new to Octane.

I can't seem to find a good article or tutorial on creating volumetric lights. I saw a thread from a year or so ago that had an attached scene file for Modo that created a volumetric effect with a light.

If someone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

:)

Take a look at this one.

Add an area light to the scene and in the properties convert it to an octane emitter. Basically you need to create your 'medium' (fog bank...whatever) with geometry and convert it to a volume...then your lights will show up. I'll do a better tutorial maybe this weekend.

Hey Greg. That would be great if you could demonstrate how the technique in this video can relate to creating a volumetric light. Say like a spotlight on stage with a slight fog.

Cheers!

Great video Greg - thanks for posting. If think you can also get rid of the Plane emitter geometry showing behind the frog's head by setting the Opacity to 0 (although I haven't tried that inside a Volume).

Thanks for the Video! You can get more control of the Cone Angle by using this assembly in the Distribution Slot:

Thanks Hesekiel, I'll take a look. I need to do an update to this video with the environmental medium.

Cool!

Is there a way to add noise to the volumes density? Like in Modo where you can add a lot of extra detail with a texture
